PORTFOLIO

User Epic

Title:

Gamified Learning iOS App

Epic:

As a lifelong learner or student, I want to enroll in interactive, gamified courses across various subjects (e.g. vocabulary, algebra, chemistry, history), so that I can learn at my own pace, build daily streaks, and stay motivated through achievements and progression tracking.

What:

Develop an iPhone app that allows users to:

  • Browse and enroll in multiple subject-based courses for free.
  • Complete short, engaging lessons designed to take 3–5 minutes.
  • Build daily streaks and earn XP and achievements.
  • Track progress visually through course maps and dashboards.
  • Receive reminders and motivational nudges to stay consistent.

Why:

Many learners want a structured but flexible way to build knowledge in academic subjects outside the traditional classroom. By borrowing Duolingo's successful gamified design, we can boost motivation and retention through bite-sized content, progression tracking, and daily engagement—making learning fun and sustainable.

Success Looks Like:

  • 75% of new users completing onboarding and first lesson
  • 25% user retention after 3 months
  • 4.5 average rating on the App Store after 1 year
  • Engagement rate (avg. daily sessions per user >1) after 6 months

Note: This is a high-level epic in early stages of conception.

  • As a user, I want the app to suggest which subject to continue next based on my streaks or gaps, so I stay on track across subjects.

6. Optional Features & Social Layer (Future Enhancements)

  • As a user, I want to invite friends and compare our XP/streaks, so I can stay motivated socially.

TESTIMONIALS

Akash Trivedi

Product Leader | Product Development, Team Leadership

Akash was senior to Benjamin but didn't manage Benjamin directly

I had the pleasure of working with Ben during his time as a Junior Product Manager, and I was consistently impressed by his strong work ethic, attention to detail, and eagerness to grow. Right from the start, Ben demonstrated a clear sense of ownership and genuine curiosity. He didn't just complete tasks—he asked thoughtful questions, sought out context, and often helped the team surface edge cases or gaps early in the process. What stood out most was his ability to stay organized during fast-paced, one-week sprints, his clear and confident communication during stakeholder demos, and his willingness to step up wherever the team needed support. Ben brings a strong mix of analytical thinking, user empathy, and a builder's mindset. He's well on his way to becoming a standout product manager, and any team would be lucky to have him.

Marcus Jones

Product Portfolio Manager

Marcus managed Benjamin directly

I had the pleasure of managing Ben in his product role at StrongMind, and I can confidently say he made a big impact in a short time. Ben led two critical areas of work: he ran our internal engineering "cohorts," weekly collaborative sessions focused on innovation and platform improvement, and he was the product manager for our data team—working directly with executive leadership to scope and prioritize critical reporting initiatives. On top of that, Ben independently partnered with a contracted developer to plan, build, and launch a scheduling tool used across our internal schools to coordinate state testing—an essential need for academic operations and compliance. What stood out most about Ben was his ability to adapt quickly, stay focused on user value, and foster an energized and collaborative environment wherever he went. He consistently brought clarity, structure, and positivity into spaces that had a lot of ambiguity and pressure, and his teams genuinely enjoyed working with him. Despite being newer to product, Ben showed a true commitment to growing in the craft—taking initiative to earn certifications, seek out mentorship, and apply what he learned to his day-to-day work. Any team would be lucky to have someone like Ben: a thoughtful communicator, a motivated learner, and someone who knows how to bring out the best in a team.

Toacin Patwary

Software Engineer

Toacin worked with Benjamin but on different teams

It was a great pleasure to have worked with Ben at StrongMind. As a software engineer that comes from a startup, I was very comfortable with the idea of "wearing many hats", and part of that was being my own product manager. But then I worked with Ben. Ben wore his product management hat and owned it. No one had a deeper knowledge of the products he managed, and completely lifted that load off my plate. He preemptively answered questions that he knew would be asked, and that is the kind of foresight that made him special. But beyond all that, he was a great friend to have in my corner. Reliable, caring, and always there. His departure from StrongMind has me envious of those who get the pleasure to work with him next, but I am equally happy to look forward to what he will accomplish!

Julie Martinez

VP of Product & Customer Success | Leading with Strategy, Delivering Results

Julie managed Benjamin directly

I had the pleasure of having Ben as part of our product team for five months, and even in that short time, it was clear how dedicated and capable he is as a growing product professional. He quickly became a valued team member, bringing a positive, can-do attitude to every challenge and consistently showing a willingness to learn, grow, and contribute wherever he could. Ben approached every project with curiosity and a strong desire to develop his product management skills. He took on new tasks with enthusiasm—whether contributing to competitive analysis, learning unfamiliar concepts, or sharing thoughtful ideas to support our product strategy. His fresh perspective and willingness to jump in wherever needed made a real difference to the team. Beyond his growing product skills, Ben is an excellent communicator and collaborator. He built strong relationships across teams, ensured alignment, and approached every interaction with professionalism and kindness. I'm confident that Ben's dedication, positive mindset, and eagerness to learn will continue to serve him well. Any team would be lucky to have him as part of their product organization.
